On December 14, 2017, Deputy Mayor of Chengdu Liu Xiaoliu met with a delegation led by Laweini, General Manager of the Logistics and Transportation Agent Service Department of French National Railway Corporation (SNCF). The two parties spoke cordially and extensively about collaboration and starting a non-stop train service between Chengdu and Paris.
Liu Xiaoliu said that Chengdu has maintained close communication with France in many areas such as economy and trade, culture and international sister cities relations, while both Chengdu and Paris possess uniquely romantic yet fashionable atmosphere. Liu expressed the hope that SNCF could strengthen its support for freight organization and operation of the Chengdu-Paris non-stop train, so as to leverage on the Chengdu-Paris direct service to expand the operation network and augment the standard of operation and customs clearance capacities of the China-Europe Express, which would position it as one of the most competitive of all China-Europe Express trains and further promote logistics development and trade interactions between the two sides.
Laweini said that the Chengdu-Paris non-stop train will begin operation at the end of January next year, and the goal is to actualize normalized operation by March or April next year. He said that SNCF greatly values Chengdu's role as the gateway hub of western China, and expressed the wish that the new non-stop service could serve as an opportunity to partake in Chengdu's infrastructure construction and drive diversified cooperation between the two parties.
Chengdu Municipal Government Deputy Mayor Liu Chengzhen and relevant persons in charge at the Chengdu Municipal Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, Chengdu Municipal Port Logistics Office, Management Committee of the Chengdu International Railway Port, Chengdu International Railway Port Investment and Development Co., Ltd. and Chengdu International Railway Service Co., Ltd. also participated in the meeting.
During the span of the visit, representatives of the Logistics and Transportation Agent Service Department of SNCF and Chengdu International Railway Port Investment and Development Co., Ltd. signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation on the opening of Chengdu-Paris non-stop train.
